Spied – VW Polo 1.2 TSI caught testing

Finally the prayers of the petrolheads are about to be answered! The guys at Overdrive have spotted this VW Polo carrying TSI badge testing on our roads.
We ended the VW Jetta TSI's driving review by pleading VW to bring the Polo TSI and this test mule give us ray of hope. VW has discontinued the Polo 1.6 and the 1.2 TSI with 104 bhp is expected to become driver’s petrol hatchback.
The turbocharged direct injection petrol engine develops a healthy torque (for its size) of 175 Nm at a very low 1,550 rpm which makes for a fun-filled driving experience. The European Polo TSI can sprint to 100 kmph from rest in less than 10 seconds, however the cars with TSI engines which are sold in India don’t run on stratified cycle (lean burn cycle) owing to the poor fuel quality.
The Polo 1.2 TSI is expected be sold only in Highline trim. Interestingly the test mule has GT badge, suggesting that VW may not bring the Polo in GTi version with body kits and special interiors which would shoot up the cost. That’s a clever move!
VW has been silent about bringing the 1.2 TSI and it comes as a pleasant surprise to driving enthusiasts. While it may not rake in volumes, it’s sure to have delight the owners with its performance.
If not, this is just a test mule here as part of some silly global testing program, designed mainly to disappoint Indian driving enthusiasts. C’mon VW India, let’s go for it!
