The global sensation Volkswagen Up! has two cousins from its sister
brands – Skoda Citigo and Seat Mii. Essentially, they are the same cars
with a different exterior accessories, badges and price tags.
Skoda has completed its Citigo range by adding two new variants to the lineup – Skoda Citigo Green Tec (CNG variant) and Citigo Sport.
The Skoda Citigo Green Tec version has been optimized to run on natural gas. It has a 10 gallon petrol tank and two reserve tanks for CNG – 34.5 and 37.5 liters respectively. Couple the dual fuel source with the Start & Stop system, the brake energy recovery system and low friction tires and the total range shoots to a whopping 600 km!
The Citigo Green Tec will be offered with three or five-door body style, with prices ranging between 12,040 Euros (8.76 lakhs) and 14,360 Euros (10.44 lakhs).
Next in-line is the Skoda Citigo Sport – a sporty looking variant of the Citigo.
The reason i say ‘looking’ is because nothing whatsoever is done to boost the performance. Updates are only decorations.
It is very easy to see why Skoda is mum about the Citigo’s launch in India. They are waiting for VW India to confirm the launch of the Up! Only then can Skoda India go ahead with the Citigo. Unless there is complete component localization, the Citigo cannot be priced in the league of the i10s and Wagon Rs and serve as the Czech brand’s entry-level car faithfully.
