Mercedes GLC (India-bound) takes inspiration from the C Class – Rendering

Mercedes Benz’s new nomenclature dictates that the Mercedes GLK will be called GLC from the next generation onward. To launch/be revealed in June this year, the India-bound BMW X3 competitor has made a couple of appearances in camouflaged guises, and WorldCarFans has now released a rendering, previewing it.

The GLC will replace the current GLK and will be positioned above the GLA compact SUV.
Based on the same platform as the C Class, or MRA (Mercedes Rear-wheel drive Architecture), it appears that the GLC draws a lot of inspiration from the car on the design aspect as well. The front end is straight off the C Class while it’s taller, sits higher, and also has a well-proportioned passenger compartment.
Unlike in the past, the vehicle will be made in right hand drive variants, which opens up the possibility of it reaching India. Adding to that, Mercedes India CEO, Mr Eberhard Kern previously confirmed the vehicle for India, in a brief interview with IAB.

Engine options will be shared with the C Class, while the AMG variant of the GLC is likely to be powered by the 4-litre twin-turbo V8 that does duty on the Mercedes C 63 AMG.
As for its launch, an Indian arrival could take place in 2016.

Competitors: Audi Q5, BMW X3, Volvo XC60
Launch date: H2 2015 (Europe)
